Daily Stream Meeting

Daily Stream Meeting (DSM) is similar to a Scrum of Scrums meeting. It is a daily event that takes place after the Daily Scrums of all teams contributing to an Agile Stream. The meeting has a time-box of 45 minutes or less, and all Stream Team members attend it.

During that meeting, Stream Team members review and update their kanban-style Agile Stream Board. The goal of the DSM is to identify the highest value impediments and swarm to resolve them.

The agenda for the Daily Stream meeting looks something like this:

  • Impediment Escalation.
  • Impediment Updates.
  • Today’s plan.

Impediment Escalation (15 minutes time-box)

Scrum Masters take turns to describe the newly discovered Stream Impediments in the presence of their peers and add them to the Agile Stream Board (ASB). Stream Team will not attempt to resolve or solution the impediments at this stage.

Impediment Updates (15 minutes time-box)

Stream Team members outline resolved impediments and share updates of unresolved ones. Scrum Masters communicate that information to their teams to update their plans for the day.

Today’s plan (15 minutes time-box)

At this stage, Agile Stream metrics are updated based on the available information. The Agile Stream Board is then ranked using the Stream Drag Index (SDI).

Stream Team members swarm and decide which Stream Impediments they will tackle. The outcome of this meeting is a plan for the day, and an updated Agile Stream Board, which is visible to the organization.
